This course is aimed at beginners of Chinese and focuses on basic daily language. The focus is to introduce students to Chinese language and culture through readings and group role playing activities. The student should acquire a reasonable proficiency in everyday language. Reading and writing will be essential parts of the course but great emphasis will be placed on practical Chinese. Completion of this unit should give students a basic level of proficiency allowing continued studies of Chinese.
This course is aimed at advanced students of Chinese including background speakers and advanced learners. Great emphasis is placed on reading, writing and grammar. Students will learn to read more detailed writings such as newspapers and magazines. Students will be exposed to Chinese culture and history through course readings and classroom activities such as calligraphy. Overview
This class is intended for students for whom English is not the native language. Focus will be on improving English language skills related to speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Students who reach a sufficient level of English language proficiency will graduate out of this class.
